How is financial aid affected when living off campus?
March 12th, 2010 | by admin |questionette asked:
I go to UC Davis and I am a freshman living in the dorms. Next year however I will have to move out and live off campus in an apartment. My financial aid paid for everything this year and probably will next year too since my family’s contribution is 0 on the fafsa. I am just wondering how living off campus will affect my disbursements (if I will recieve more or less). Thank you!

It doesn’t affect it at all. I’ve had friends who received generous financial aid packages and they still lived at home.

The total cost of living is slightly lower for off campus. Depending on the type of aid you’re getting, it may go down by about $1000-2000 for the year. Or it may not, it just depends.

There is no difference really you gain a little bit from it but you also lose a little bit from it so it just depends on the situation that you are put into.
